The Port Colborne Lions have just completed a banner year for the Club.  In the spring of 2016, they officially twinned with the Sheridan Drive Lions Club from New York State.

The International Club Twinning program promotes the creation, and fosters a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world. Through this program Lions have the opportunity to formalize their friendships with clubs in other countries, learn about different cultures, exchange experiences and ideas about what it means to be a Lion, and add an international dimension to their service mission.

Club Twinning is a voluntary and mutual agreement between two clubs and can involve as much exchange and interaction as the two clubs desire.

In June of this year, at the annual awards evening, seven new members were inducted into the PC Lions by District A2 Governor Lion Stewart Patterson.  The new members included five female members, a first for the PC Lions.

The new executive for the Lions year 2016-17 was also installed this past June by Past District A2 Governor Lion Al Beamer.

As part of the largest service organization in the world, the Port Colborne Lions have since 1922 been serving the residents of Port Colborne, more specifically, our youth and those individuals with sight impairment.

As a community minded group of men and women volunteers, their projections for this year’s support to Port Colborne and Lions projects approximate $40,000. This includes support to the youth of Port Colborne through scholarships and sports sponsorship; support to the library, food drive, Cadets; support of camps for kids with such disabilities as visual impairment, diabetes, cancer, dialysis requirements and other health issues; and support towards Lions sight related projects including funding of special needs dogs.

The Lions have spearheaded fund raising campaigns for construction of the arenas, the band shell and wading pool at H. H. Knoll Park, supported the local hospital, museum and library, provided training equipment for the Port Colborne Fire Department, and provided washroom facilities at Lions Field.

The Lions are now gearing up for their next big event, the annual Port Colborne Lions Carnival scheduled for July 14 through 17 at the Lions Field on Killaly Street.

Lions consist of men and women from all walks of life, age 18 and up. Anyone interested in finding out more information about the PC Lions can contact Lion Jerry Ursacki at 905-835-2083 or Lion George DeRuyte at 289-820-6163.
