BGCN recognizes Regions ‘Champions for Children’

The Boys & Girls Club of Niagara celebrates the region’s ‘Champions for Children’ with Awards Gala

The Boys & Girls Club of Niagara will host their annual Champions for Children Gala on Jan. 19/2018, at John Michael’s Banquet Centre in Thorold.

The gala, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the development and well-being of children and youth in Niagara, will honour the achievements of Niagara College Canada, Mayor Wayne Redekop of the Town of Fort Erie, and Heartland Forest’s Dan Bouwman.

“This event is our way of saying thank you – to recognize and celebrate the work and tremendous achievements of this year’s recipients,” said JoAnne Turner, Executive Director of The Boys & Girls Club of Niagara. “Much of the work we do as an organization centres on empowering children and youth to reach their full potential. It’s important that we recognize the individuals and organizations that join us and support us in the work we do. It’s our privilege to honour them Friday evening.”

Tim Denis, host of 610 CKTB’s Morning Show, will serve as the event’s master of ceremonies and Darlene Edgar, Director of Children’s Services at the Niagara Region will be the evening’s keynote speaker.  Awards presenters include Carol Stewart-Kirkby, Executive Director of the United Way of Niagara and Greater Fort Erie; Wayne Gates, Member of Provincial Parliament for Niagara Falls; and Michael Colaneri Jr. of Pinewood Niagara Builders.

The event, which begins at 6 p.m., is open to the public. During the evening’s festivities, the organization will debut a new promotional video for their centres, developed in partnership with students from Niagara College Canada’s broadcasting program.

Guests will also enjoy a dinner, silent auction, and awards ceremony, to cap off an evening celebrating progress and the development of greater opportunities for the children and youth of Niagara.

Tickets to the event are $100 each or $800 for a table and are still available for purchase at the Boys & Girls Club of Niagara’s Niagara Falls Corporate Office on McLeod Road.

Recipients of the Champions for Children Award are carefully selected annually by an assembled committee consisting of members of the organization’s management staff as well as their Board of Directors.

Past recipients of the honour include the United Way of Niagara and Greater Fort Erie, The Daniele Family, Royal Bank of Canada, Darlene Edgar, and the Fallsview Casino and Resort.
