Blackhawks double Pelham with 6 – 3 win

The Thorold Blackhawks engagement with the Pelham Panthers Sunday Jan. 28/2018 ended in a 6 – 3 win for the Blackhawks in GOJHL hockey action in Pelham.

Pelham was first on the scoreboard with a goal from Francesco Gigliotti at 3:17 in the first period assisted by Anthony Gigliotti and Matt Ruigrok.

Trevor Neumann evened the score for the Blackhawks with his power play goal at 4:57 assisted by Mason Howard and Matt Maindens. Spencer Blackwell’s goal at 16:45 assisted by Griffen Fox and Mason Howard had the Blackhawks finish the period leading 2 – 1.

In the second period, each team scored one each, the Blackhawks ending with a 3 – 2 lead.

Thomas Young tied the game for Pelham with his goal at 7:13 assisted by Adam Scholz and Chris Webber.

Griffen Fox’s goal late in the period at 17:56 assisted by Spencer Blackwell and Austin Jensen put Thorold in the lead to finish the period.

In the third period, Mitch Britton power play goal at 3:10 assisted by Spencer Blackwell and Griffen Fox put Thorold ahead 4 – 2.

With the game still close, Pelham had put an extra man on the ice to try and forxe a tie. At 18:18 Brendan Charlton scored on the Pelham empty net assisted by Spencer Blackwell and Austin Jensen.

At 18:28, Pelham’s Connor Brown, assisted by Jared Hill, brought the game closer again (5 – 3 for Thorold) so Pellham again pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Daniel Rocco of Thorold put the game out of reach with an empty net goal at 18:46 assisted by Trevor Neumann and Matt Maidens.

In action earlier this week, the Thorold Blackhawks beat the Welland Junior Canadians 4 – 1 in Thorold Thursday Jan. 25/2018. They also beat the Buffalo Regals 5 – 0 in Buffalo Tuesday Jan. 23/2018.

The Thorold Blackhawks are next in action at home Thursday Feb. 1/2018 against the St. Catharines Falcons.

The Pelham Panthers last action this week was Saturday Jan. 27/2018 in Ancaster against the Avalanche. Ancaster won 2 – 0.

The Pelham Panthers next action is Friday Feb. 2/2018 in Niagara Falls against the Canucks. After that they will face the Fort Erie Meteors in Pelham Sunday Feb. 4/2018 at 2:30 p.m.
