Careless cooking was identified as the cause for a fire that caused extensive damage to a trailer at Sherkston Shores Resort on Friday Mar. 30/2018.

Port Colborne Fire and Emergency Services Chief Tom Cartwright said that the fire was reported about 6:30 p.m.

“It was confirmed while en route to be a working fire,” Cartwright said. “Upon arrival fire was showing through the roof.”

He said that mutual aid from Fort Erie in the form of a tanker was activated because the water supply has not been turned on in the park yet.

“The fire was under control quickly and contained to the one trailer,” Cartwright said. “The trailer was heavily damaged throughout, damage is estimated at $ 100,000 or more.”

“The fire was caused by careless cooking, oil on the stove.”

There were no injuries from the fire.
