Community help needed for Easter Food Drive

Port Colborne Fire and Emergency Services, Port Cares and Sobey’s Port Colborne are asking for help from the community Saturday March 31/2018 for the Annual Easter Food Drive.

The community partners will be holding the food drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, all  proceeds go towards Port Cares Reach Out Food Centre.

“The Easter Food Drive reminds the community that although food insecurity and other symptoms of poverty tend to be front and foremost during colder months, even heading into spring the need does not go away,” said Amanda Upper, Site Supervisor Port Cares Reach Out Centre said. “This collaborative initiative between the Fire Services and the Port Colborne Sobey’s every year serves as an example, and a call to action for those in our community in a position to do their part. With everyone doing their part, we can make a greater impact.”

Non-perishable food items are needed such as canned fruit, vegetables and meat, rice, baby formula and baby food, peanut butter, pasta and sauce, and powdered milk. Other items needed include deodorant, shampoo and soap.

“PCFD will be out front collecting for Port Cares and manning the BBQ with the items available being donated from Sobeys,” Scott Lawson, Fire Prevention Officer Port Colborne Fire and Emergency Services said.

“The City of Port Colborne has always supported the fire department; the support has been overwhelming over the past year and a half,” he said. “This event is just one way for PCFD to give back and show support to our community. Sobeys is so involved in the community and Port Cares: I’m glad we can team up with them over this holiday.”
