Get your summer read on: TD Summer Reading Club launches Saturday

The Wainfleet Township Public Library is set to launch the TD Summer Reading Club on June 17. Get ready for a summer of reading fun.

The Wainfleet Township Public Library is officially launching this year’s TD Summer Reading Club on Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be the first opportunity for children to register for the summer reading program, which will run from July 4 to August 10 at the Wainfleet Library.

“We are looking forward to kicking off this summer’s Reading Club,” said Wainfleet Library CEO/Chief Librarian, Lorrie Atkinson. “We want to get kids excited about reading over the summer. We hope to see everyone at the launch.”

At the launch, children and parents can meet the program coordinators, check out the recommended reads list, and take a sneak peek at the fun activities planned for the summer. There will also be a number of maker activities throughout the day.

Wainfleet Library Programmer, Carrie Mayr, says that the Reading Club is a great way for kids to develop and maintain their literacy skills over the summer.

“Our goal is for each child to read, or be read, at least 10 books at their level,” Mayr said. “Over 1,500 books were read during last summer’s reading program. We want to surpass that this year!”

The TD Summer Reading Program is designed for a variety of ages, ranging from 2 to 12 years old. Children between the ages of 2 and 4 years old can attend a 1-hour session on Thursday mornings from 10 to 11 a.m. and must be accompanied by a caregiver. There is no fee for the 2 to 4 year old session.

The other age groups pay $25 for the summer or $5 per session. Ages 4 to 6 meet on Tuesday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. or on Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon. Children between 7 and 9 years old can attend on Tuesday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon or on Wednesday afternoons between 1 to 4 p.m. Ages 10 to 12 meet on Thursday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m.

Registration forms will be available at Saturday’s launch, www.wainfleetlibrary.ca or https://www.facebook.com/WainfleetTownshipPublicLibrary/ thereafter.

Completed registration forms must be returned in person to the Wainfleet Library to reserve a spot. No phone registrations are accepted.

Sessions fill on a first come, first served basis.

The TD Summer Reading Club will wrap-up at the End of Summer Party on Thursday, August 18 from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the Wainfleet Firefighters’ Memorial Community Hall. The party will feature a Bubbleology show and exciting prizes will be handed out.

For over 20 years, the Wainfleet Township Public Library has successfully offered a summer reading program for children.
