In celebration and recognition of Canada 150, Giant Tiger, a proud Canadian community-minded retailer, has partnered with local organizations across Canada to make a big difference in communities. Throughout the summer, Giant Tiger will be hosting events and announcing community-building donations and initiatives across the country. Investing in the communities we call home has never been more meaningful.

A team from Giant Tiger stores across the Niagara region were dressed-to-build with steel toes and hammers on May 16th and 17th to help construct a local Habitat for Humanity home in Welland.

The house being built at 47 Sauer Avenue, will be a new home for Juan, Luz and their three children. Giant Tiger presented a cheque to Habitat for Humanity Niagara for $10,000 to help cover some of the expenses in the construction of the home.

“Community involvement is more than what we do at Giant Tiger, it is who we are,” explains Karen Sterling, VP of Marketing, Giant Tiger Stores Limited. “This year marks Canada’s 150th birthday and we are especially proud of the initiatives we’re involved with throughout our communities. Partnering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity cultivates the sense of home, community and family that is a direct reflection of Giant Tiger’s all-Canadian brand.”

Guided by their values and committed to transforming the lives of people, Habitat for Humanity brings communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership.

“We are extremely grateful to work with a corporate sponsor like Giant Tiger Stores Limited, which shares in our vision of a world where everyone deserves a decent place to live,” said Alastair Davis, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Niagara. “Through their generous support, another Habitat family will have the opportunity to have a stable start in a safe and secure home.”
