Jr. Canadians triumphant against Meteors

For the first two periods the game could’ve gone either way Saturday Jan. 20/2018 in Fort Erie as the Fort Erie Meteors and the Welland Junior Canadians clashed in GOJHL hockey action.

Welland came out of the first period leading 3 – 2, Fort Erie was first on the scoreboard though with Drew Passero’s goal at 1:16 assisted by Spencer Cosway and Michael Fazio.

Matt Hobbs put Welland on the scoreboard at 3:10 assisted by Alexander Dameski and Brendan Rylott.

Brady Lee put the Meteors ahead on the power play at 9:16 assisted by Evan Miller and Kevin Weaver-Vitale, Welland’s Noah Blakely tied it up on the power play at 13:40 assisted by Nick Caputo and Roberto Moretto.

Tanner McEachern netted Welland’s third goal at 17:22, assisted by Michael Dischiavi and Robert Moretto giving them the lead at the end of the period.

In the second period, only one goal was scored, Brendan Rylott connected on a power play late in the period at 17:12 assisted by Roberto Moretto and Tanner McEachern putting Welland ahead 4 – 2.

Fort Erie’s Evan Miller narrowed that gap by one at 2:14 in the third period assisted by Mike Masotti and Brady Lee.

Just past the halfway mark at 11:21 Welland’s Noah Bollert widened the lead to 5 – 3 on the power play, assists went to Maliek Powell and Matthenw Giannini. Alexander Dameski netted Welland’s sixth goal at 16:51 assisted by Matt Hobbs and Brendan Rylott. Noah Bollert scored their seventh goal on an empty net at 18:28 assisted by Maliek Powell and Matthew Giannini.

In the Golden Horseshoe division standings the Welland Junior Canadians are currently in sixth place, the Fort Erie Meteors in eighth place. For up-to-date standings see the GOJHL website: http://www.gojhl.ca/view/gojhl

The Fort Erie Meteors action this past week had them win 5 – 4 in Buffalo against the Regals Tuesday Jan. 16/2018 and they battled in Ancaster Thursday Jan. 18/2018, losing 3 – 2 in overtime to the Avalanche.

The next action for the Fort Erie Meteors is Saturday Jan. 27/2018 in Fort Erie against the St. Catharines Falcons at 7:15 p.m.

The Welland Junior Canadians are next in action at home on Sunday Jan. 21/2018. They face the fifth place Thorold Blackhawks at 7 p.m.
