Male drowns in Welland River

NRP LogoOn Friday July 14, 2017 members of the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to the Welland River adjacent to a campground on Stanley Avenue in the City of Niagara Falls in response to a report of an 18-year-old male who was swimming in the river and began experiencing difficulty.

Nearby civilians attempted to help the male but were unsuccessful.

Emergency services responded and attempted to locate the male in the water. Members of the NRPS Marine Unit recovered the body of the male who appeared to have drowned as a result of the incident.

The identity of the male is not being released out of respect for the family. Foul play is not suspected.
