Man arrested in downtown St. Catharines

At approximately 4:45 p.m. on Saturday November 11, 2017 officers were alerted to a male who claimed he was armed in a 6th floor unit at the Leonard Hotel on St. Paul Street in Downtown St. Catharines.

Uniform officers with 1 District (St. Catharines) as well as the Emergency Tactical Unit responded and closed a section of the downtown for approximately 2 hours while negotiators spoke with the male.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., the man was taken into police custody.

41-year-old Brian Adshead is charged with:

  • Mischief over $5000
  • Mischief under $5000

Adshead was also wanted on a previous warrant for uttering threats as well as 3 counts of breach of probation in unrelated incidents.

Adshead has been held in custody pending a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice on Sunday November 12, 2017 via video link at the John Sopinka Courthouse in Hamilton.
