Meteors fall to Avalanche

Fort Erie’s Daniel Aspro moves the puck past Ancaster’s Matthew Bridgwater in GOJHL hockey action Saturday night in Fort Erie.

The Fort Erie Meteors fell to the visiting Ancaster Avalanche Saturday Oct. 28/2017 in GOJHL hockey action in Fort Erie. Ancaster took home a 5 – 2 win.

Fort Erie was first on the scoreboard in the first period with a power play goal from Garrett Jennings at 5:37, assists went to Daniel Nardi and Drew Passero. Ancaster’s Yianni Skropolis evened the score at 8:12 with assists going to Caelan McPhee and Graydon James. Graydon James’ goal at 19:26, assisted by Derek Raposo and Caelan McPhee, gave the Avalanche at 2 – 1 lead going into the second period.

Ancaster scored three unanswered goals in the second period to take a 5 – 1 lead. Nicholas Breault scored at 9:40 assisted by Noah Romeo and Luke Croucher. Graydon James connected for his second goal of the night at 11:21 with assists going to Kyle Kennery and Benjamin Woodhouse. Benjamin Woodhouse scored their fifth, a short-handed goal at 19:25 assisted by Kyle Kennery and Noah Romeo.

Mike Masotti scored the only goal of the third period at 6:54, Fort Erie’s second goal, assisted by Spencer Cosway and Aidan McLeod.

In GOJHL hockey action earlier this week, the Meteors won 6 – 5 over the Buffalo Regals in Buffalo on Tuesday Oct. 24, they lost in Niagara Falls Friday Oct. 27, the Canucks earning a 4 – 1 win.

The Meteors are next in action Saturday Nov. 4/2017 on home ice against the Caledonia Corvairs, the face the Pelham Panthers Sunday Nov. 5/2017 at 3 p.m. in Pelham.
