NRP LogoThe Niagara Regional Police Service is currently investigating a homicide in Fort Erie. The police were called to a property on Petit Rd. near Sutherland Dr. for a welfare check of an individual on Saturday Feb. 3/2018.

“As a result of the nature of the information received, members of the Emergency Tactical Unit and negotiators responded to the area,” a Niagara Regional Police Service press release said Sunday Feb. 4/2018.

A male was taken into custody around 3: 15 p.m. Saturday.

“Human remains were subsequently located on the property and as a result, the scene has been secured by police,” the release said. “An investigation is now being led by the Homicide Unit. It is anticipated that crime scene investigators will be on the property for several days processing the scene.”

Investigators are working in conjunction with medical experts to identify the victim.

James Dylan Osborne, 32-years-old, of Fort Erie was arrested and charged for second degree murder.  In an update from the Niagara Regional Police later Sunday afternoon, they announced that he was also being charged with causing an indignity to a dead human body.

“The additional charge is in relation to the same victim,” the update said. “Investigators are expected to remain at the Fort Erie property for several days.”
