Panthers earn OT win Sunday against Blackhawks

At one point, the Thorold Blackhawks were leading the Pelham Panthers 5 – 0 in GOJHL hockey action in Pelham Dec. 10/2017.

The Blackhawks took a 3 – 0 lead in the first period. In the second period, they went up two more before Pelham got on the scoreboard more than ¾ of the way through the period.

It was a huge third period effort for Pelham that brought the game to a 6 – 6 tie at the end of the third, forcing the overtime period where Pelham took the 7 – 6 win.

The first period Thorold goals came from Brendan Charlton and Daniel Lowe for two. Daniel Lowe’s hat trick came in the second period, Blair Jenkins connected for Thorold’s fifth.

Noah Caperchione finally got Pelham on the scoreboard at 15:56 in the second period.

Brendan Charlton added Thorold’s sixth goal in the third period.

Pelham added five more to their total in the third led off by Chris Webber early in the period. The second half of the third had four more goals for Pelham coming from: Kurt Viullani, Chris Webber, Matt Ruigrok and Thomas Young.

Chris Webber won the game for Pelham with his hat trick goal at just 31 seconds into the first overtime period.

The win for the Panthers comes after suffering an 8 – 2 loss at the hands of the Caledonia Corvairs Saturday Dec. 9/2017 in Caledonia.

The Pelham Panthers are next in action Saturday Dec. 16/2017 in Fort Erie against the Meteors at 7:15 p.m. They then face the Ancaster Avalanche Sunday Dec. 17/2017 at 2:30 p.m. in Pelham.

Thorold came into the game with a 4 – 0 win in Buffalo against the Regals Saturday Dec. 9/2017 and a 2 – 1 win against the Fort Erie Meteors on Thursday Dec. 7/2017.

Thorold will be facing off against Fort Erie again on Thursday Dec. 14/2017 at 7 p.m. in Thorold.
