Pelham takes third of four starts against Welland

Both teams meet again Sunday

The Pelham Panthers picked up a 4 – 2 win over the Welland Junior Canadians Friday Nov. 10/2017 in GOJHL hockey action in Pelham. Both teams will be meeting again Sunday Nov. 12/2017 in Welland.

Noah Caperchione of Pelham knocked in their first goal at 0:35 in the first period with assists going to Zach Thompson and Matt Ruigrok giving Pelham a 1 – 0 lead that would carry through to the end of the period.

In the second period, the lead increased to 3 – 0 as Pelham added two more unanswered goals.

Noah Caperchione connected for his second of the night at 7:10 assisted, again, by Zach Thompson and Matt Ruigrok. Peter Izzo put in their third at 15:31 assisted by Brenden Bouvier and Jake Herrberg.

Matt Ruigrok increased the lead to 4 – 0 at 7:49 in the third period assisted by Noah Caperchione.

Welland’s Tanner McEachern put them on the scoreboard with a goal on the power play at 16:06, assists went to Erik Nelson and Maliek Powell. Matthew Giannini added the second Welland goal at 17:52 assisted by Daelyn Minovski and Anthony Grigg.

The games three stars are all from the Pelham Panthers:

  • Star #1: Noah Caperchione
  • Star #2: Matt Ruigrok
  • Star #3: Eric Schneider

This is the fourth time the rival teams have faced each other this year. So far, the Pelham Panthers have won three of the four games.

The Welland Junior Canadians action Tuesday Nov. 7/2017 ended in a 3 – 2 OT win for them over the Buffalo Regals in Buffalo. The Welland goal scorers were: Tanner McEachern for two goals, the first and the game winner in overtime and Brendan Rylott.
