Third period scoring earns win for Thorold

The Welland Junior Canadians were leading the Thorold Blackhawks by a score of 2 – 0 as the third period started in GOJHL hockey action Sunday Jan. 21/2018 in Welland. Three third period goals from the Blackhawks earned them the win.

The first period ended scoreless, at the end of the second period the Junior Canadians were ahead 2 – 0.

Welland’s goals came from Noah Bollert on the power play at 7:22, assisted by Liam Anderson and Matthew Giannini, and Matthew Giannini connected on the power play at 15:51 with assists going to Noah Bollert and Liam Anderson.

Trailing behind, Thorold got on the scoreboard at 2:34 in the third period with Blair Jenkins scoring, assists went to Brendan Charlton and Daniel Rocco.

Thorold’s Mitch Britton evened the score with his goal at 12:40 assisted by Spencer Blackwell and Griffen Fox. Mason Howard netted the game winner with three minutes left in the game assisted by Daniel Rocco and Blair Jenkins.

In action earlier this week, Thorold lost 5 – 3 to the first place Caledonia Corvairs Saturday Jan. 20/2018 in Caledonia.

They also battled to at 5 – 4 double overtime win against Pelham Thursday Jan. 18/2018.

Thorold next sees action in Buffalo Tuesday Jan. 23/2018 against the Regals.

The Welland Junior Canadians and the Thorold Blackhawks will be meeting again in Thorold Thursday Jan. 25/2018, puck drops at 7 p.m.
