Tickets available now for the 16th Annual Soup’s On! fundraiser

Hot soup, camaraderie and hospitality on a cold winter’s day in Welland, tickets are currently on sale for the 16th Annual Soups On! social justice scholarship fundraiser.

On Friday Jan. 26/2018 the Parish Community of St. Kevin hall at 303 Niagara St. will be hosting the popular fundraiser which has always sold out every year.

“The luncheon brings together high school and college soup-prep teams from Blessed Trinity High School (Grimsby), Confederation Secondary School (Welland), Eastdale Secondary School (Welland), Lakeshore Catholic High School (Port Colborne), Niagara College’s Canadian Food and Wine Institute (Niagara-on-the-Lake), Notre Dame College School (Welland) and a local business – Stephanie the Lunch Lady,” said a press release from the organizing committee.

The menu will be announced shortly before the event.

“Soup’s On is a fundraiser for the St. Kevin Food Bank Social Justice Scholarship,” the press release said. “In June 2017 after interviews with applicants, four scholarships were presented to two students from Notre Dame, and, one each from Lakeshore Catholic and Blessed Trinity.”

“The scholarship program recognizes young people who work for positive change through social justice and charity initiatives,” the release said.  “Application forms for the 2018 scholarship will be available in guidance offices at secondary schools in Niagara Region early next year.”

There are three luncheon sittings at this year’s event, 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Tickets are available in the foyer of St. Kevin’s Church through November and December before and after all the masses. They are also available in the parish office through business hours Monday through Friday. Tickets are $10 each. Group purchases are welcomed.
