Welland delegation meeting with provincial and federal officials

A delegation of elected officials and senior staff from the City of Welland will be meeting with provincial and federal officials at next week’s Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference in Ottawa.

Welland’s delegation is comprised of Mayor Frank Campion, several Councillors, Director of Economic Development Dan Degazio, and Chief Administrative Officer Gary Long.

The following meetings are confirmed:

  • The Honourable Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health
  • The Honourable Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development and Growth
  • Daiene Vernile, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation and the Minister of Research, Innovation, and Science
  • Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown and Ernie Hardeman (PC Municipal Affairs Critic)
  • Senior officials with Municipal Affairs and Housing, Smart Cities Challenge Program, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) Green Municipal Fund

“We’re looking forward to continuing to build positive working relationships with key decision makers at the provincial and federal levels,” said Welland Mayor Frank Campion. “We’ll also be following up on issues and concerns we’ve raised in the past as well as discussing current strategic priorities and economic development projects.”

“Our City’s Corporate Leadership Team is working collaboratively to advance Council’s priorities and raise the city’s profile through a renewed focus on government relations, strategic partnerships, and strong advocacy,” said Chief Administrative Officer Gary Long. “In addition to focusing on City specific issues, it’s also important for Welland to contribute to the broader public policy discussions and provide thoughtful and constructive input.”

Welland Council representatives and City staff will join more than 1,900 participants at the AMO Conference, being held in Ottawa from August 13 to 16. AMO is a non-profit organization representing almost all of Ontario’s 444 municipal governments. AMO supports strong and effective municipal government in Ontario and promotes the value of municipal government as a vital and essential component of Ontario and Canada’s political system.
