Whalers ahead 3 – 0 in Russell Cup Championship series over Islanders

Niagara Whalers logoThe Niagara Whalers are just one game away from the GMHL Russell Cup Championship, leading the best-of-seven series three games to zero against the Parry Sound Islanders.

The Whalers won the third game 10 – 1 Saturday March 25 in Parry Sound.

Manny Manns led off the Whalers scoring at 4:06 in the first period assisted by Blake Luscombe. Zack Lansfield connected at 5:50 with assists going to Broderick Kelly and David Christopher. Jan Vyoral scored Parry Sound’s lone goal of the night at 9:04, assisted by Ervin Halasz and Milan Prusek. Manny Manns connected for the second time at 15:43 assisted by Matt Hore and Paolo Sivilotti giving Niagara a 3 – 1 to the end of the period.

The Whalers added five more unanswered goals in the second period to give them a commanding lead of 8 – 1.

Manny Manns scored his hat trick goal on the power play at 4:30 assisted by Brandon Cercone and Matt Hore. Kellan Rosenbaum added a goal on the power play at 6:36 assisted by Zack Lansfield and Brandon Cercone. Raifs Circenis connected with a goal at 16:17 with assists going to Broderick Kelly and Joel Horodziejczyk. Raifs Circenis scored again within a minute at 17:00, assists went to Travis Valvo and Izaak DelMastro.  Matt Hore finished off the Whalers second period scoring spree at 19:09 on the power play, assists went to Blake Luscombe and Tyler Hore.

Niagara added two more goals in the third period for their 10 – 1 win.

David Christopher netted one at 2:52 assisted by Zack Lansfield and Tyler Jackson. Izaak DelMastro scored their tenth goal at 3:37 assisted by Raifs Circenis and Travis Valvo.

Game four which may be the final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday May 26 at 7 p.m. at the Vale Health and Wellness Centre in Port Colborne.
