Whalers deal up a big loss for Aces

The Niagara Whalers have added a couple of games to the win column this week in GMHL hockey action.

They came up with a big win, 8 – 3, over the Windsor Aces Saturday Sept. 23/2017 at home, after their big 8 – 1 win in Tillsonburg Friday night against the Hurricanes.

Niagara’s Erik Johansson scored the lone goal of the first period against the Aces, assists went to Jakob Reeves and Nick Pastorious.

Niagara added four more goals in the second period to Windor’s one to give the Whalers a 5 – 1 lead. Jakob Reeves led off the period with a goal, assists went to Patrick Desjardins and Nick Pastorious. John Swiatek’s goal was assisted by David Christopher and Jesse Masterson. Nick Pasterious connected for the Whalers about mid period assisted by Jakob Reeves and Frolov Mikhail. David Christopher scored the fourth about the ¾ mark in the period, assists went to Jesse Masterson and Patrick Desjardins. Windsor’s lone goal in the period came from Layne Gouin assisted by Brendan Mackenzie and Alex Campbell.

The third period scoring started with the Whalers Jesse Masterson connecting early in the period, assists went to Kellan Rosenbaum and John Swiatek. All the rest of the goals came in the last five minutes of the period. Windor’s James Brooks added their second assisted by Alex Campbell. Niagara added two more power play goals by Patrick Desjardins. David Chrstopher and Jesse Masterson assisted on one and Nick Pastorious and Jesse Masterson assisted on the second. Windsor’s Bendan Mackenzie scored an unassisted goal with one minute ten seconds left.

The three stars of the game were from the Niagara Whalers:

  • Star #1: Jesse Masterson with one goal and four assists.
  • Star #2: Patrick Desjardins with two goals and two assists.
  • Star #3: Nick Pastorious with one goal and three assists.

In Friday night’s 8 – 1 win against the Tillsonburg Hurricanes the Whalers goal scorers were:

  1. David Christopher, assisted by Steven Farano and Kellan Rosenbaum.
  2. Nick Pastorious, assisted by Jakob Reeves and Justin Graham.
  3. Nick Pastorious, assisted by Patrick Desjardins and Jakob Reeves.
  4. Steven Farano, assisted by Jesse Masterson and David Christopher.
  5. Jakob Reeves, assisted by Justin Graham and Kellan Rosenbaum.
  6. Steven Farano, assisted by Dimitri Beer and Frolov Mikhail.
  7. Erik Johansson, assisted by Frolov Mikhail and Logan Aprea.
  8. David Christopher, unassisted.

The games three stars were from the Niagara Whalers:

  • Star #1: David Christopher with two goals, one assist.
  • Star #2: Steven Farano with two goals and one assist.
  • Star #3: Jakob Reeves with one goal and two assists.
