Whalers lose one on road, win at home

Niagara Whalers logoIn GMHL hockey action this week, the Niagara Whalers have lost to the second place Kingsville Kings and won against the Tilsonburg Hurricanes.

In Kingsville Saturday Feb. 10/2018 the Kings won over the Whalers 6 – 3.

Niagara was first on the scoreboard with a goal from Brandon Lindberg. Kingsville ended up putting two in to finish the period with a 2 – 1 lead.

Kingsville outscored Niagara 2 – 1 in the second period making it 4 – 2. Niagara’s goal came from Frolov Mikhail.

Another 2 – 1 period in the third for Kingsville gave them the 6 – 3 win. Niagara’s third period goal came from David Christopher.

In action Sunday Feb. 11/2018 in Port Colborne, the Whalers dominated at the scoreboard to beat the Tilsonburg Hurricanes 10 – 1.

Niagara ended the first period leading 3 – 1.  Whalers’ goals came from Ethan Spaxman, Alex Remedios and Frolov Mikhail. Spencer Taylor scored the Hurricanes goal.

The Whalers increased the lead in the second period to 5 – 1. The Whaler goals came from Steven Farano and Mitchell Chastelet.

Five more goals in the third period gave the Whalers the 10 – 1 win. The Whaler goals came from Frolov Mikhail for three (giving him four goals this game), Ethan Spaxman and Jake Lloyd.

The Whalers are currently listed as in third place in the GMHL South Division, one point away from North York and Kingsville who are tied for second. For up-to-date statistics see the GMHL website: https://gmhl.net/.

The Whalers will be finishing off their regular season play on Sunday Feb. 18/2018 in Port Colborne against the Oshawa Riverkings. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
