Whalers one and one this weekend

Niagara Whalers logoThe Niagara Whalers were on the road in North York this weekend, losing to the North York Renegades Saturday Nov. 11/2017 but winning over the Toronto Predators Sunday Nov. 12/2017.

In Saturday night’s game, the North York Renegades won 4 – 1. The lone Whaler goal came from Zach Main in the first period, assists went to Nick Pastorious and Jake Lloyd.

Sunday’s game with the Toronto Predators turned into a battle at the scoreboard which ended in a shootout, in the end Niagara taking an 8 – 7 win.

In the first period, the Whalers took a 3 – 1 lead.

John Swiatek led off the Whaler scoring at 4:34 assisted by Mitchell Chastelet and David Christopher. David Christopher added an unassisted goal at 10:31, he connected again at 11:11 assisted by Steven Farano.

Toronto’s Mohamed El Shaboury got them on the scoreboard at 12:49 assisted by Kyle Peters and Louis Rabelle.

The Toronto Predators outscored the Whalers 4 – 2 in the second period ending the period in a 5 -5 tie.

Steven Farano netted the first of the two Whaler goals at 0:24 assisted by Jakoob Reeves and David Christopher.

Toronto’s Michael Givens scored their second goal at 6:57 assisted by Jason Raimondi and Tyler Longo. Louis Rabelle added another Predator goal at 8:21 assisted by Kyle Peters and Ilan Scarella.

John Swiatek added his second goal of the night for the Whalers at 9:56 assisted by Mason Shumate and David Christopher giving the Whalers a 5 – 3 lead.

Toronto closed the 2 goal gap at 13:38 with a goal from Louis Rabelle assisted by Kyle Peters and Tyler Longo. Denzel Janes tied the game with his power play goal at 14:21 assisted by Tyler Longo and Mohamed El Shaboury.

Going into the third period tied at 5 – 5 each team added one more goal to force overtime.

Toronto took the lead on a power play goal from Chang Lee at 7:36 assisted by Tyler Longo and Jason Raimondi.

Their lead was taken away later in the period when Niagara’s Kellan Rosenbaum tied the game with his goal at 16:27 assisted by Jesse Masterson and David Christopher.

John Swiatek scored his hat trick goal on the shootout that earned the Whalers the 7  – 6 win.

The games three stars are:

  • Star #1: David Christopher, Niagara Whalers, with two goals and four assists.
  • Star #2: John Swiatek, Niagara Whalers, with three goals.
  • Star #3: Tyler Longo, Toronto Predators, with four assists.

Currently the Niagara Whalers hold the fourth place position in the South Division Standings four points behind the Bradford Bulls who they will be meeting Wednesday Nov. 15/2017 in Bradford.
