Whalers sink Lakers with 12 – 4 win

It was a winning night in Port Colborne Friday Jan 13/2018 as the Niagara Whalers added another win to their record this season beating the visiting London Lakers 12 – 4 in GMHL hockey action.

At the end of the first period, the score was 3 – 2 for the Whalers.

London led off the scoring at 2:20, a goal from Eric Charlebrois assisted by Parker Gee and Eisai Arai. Niagara’s Kellan Rosenbaum responded at 3:29 assisted by Jesse Masterson and Sam Martin. London went ahead with Eisai Arai’s goal at 5:41. Elias Berglund tied it up for Niagara at 12:32 assisted by David Christopher and Frolov Mikhail. Zach Main put the Whalers ahead with his goal at 14:29 assisted by Brandon Lindberg and Austin Dero.

In the second period, the Whalers added five more goals to London’s two to take a 8 – 4 lead.

David Christopher led off the Whaler’s scoring at 3:44 assisted by Sam Martin. London’s Eisai Arai scored his second of the night at 4:09 assisted by Eric Charlebois. Niagara’s Steven Farano connected at 6:40 assisted by Sam Martin and Zach Main. Kellan Rosenbaum added another at 13:13 assisted by Mason Shumate and Erik Peavey. Elias Berglund banged in another Whaler goal at 14:08 assisted by Zach Main and Steven Farano.

London’s fourth goal of the game came on the power play at 14:59 from Eric Charlebois assisted by Parker Gee and Eisai Arai.

John Swiatek ended the Whalers second period scoring at 18:09 assisted by Sam Martin and David Christopher giving them the 8 – 4 lead going into the third.

The third period was all Whalers, scoring four unanswered goals for the 12 – 4 win.

Elias Berglund connected for his hat trick on the power play at 2:40 assisted by Steven Farano and Charles Jensen. John Swiatek added his second of the night at 6:08 assisted by Frolov Mikhail and David Christopher. David Christopher added his second of the night at 9:09 assisted by Jordan Pitts and Erik Peavey. Zach Main added his second of the night at 13:04 assisted by Steven Farano and Charles Jensen.

The three stars of the game were from the Niagara Whalers:

  • Star #1: David Christopher with two goals and three assists.
  • Star #2: Zach Main with two goals and two assists.
  • Star #3: Elias Berglund with three goals.

The Niagara Whalers are next in action Saturday Jan. 12/2018 at 7:30 p.m. in Port Colborne facing the Northumberland Stars in Colborne. They’ll be at home Friday Jan. 19/2018 to face the St. George Ravens at 7:30 p.m.
