Whalers take game one of South Division Championship Series

Niagara Whalers logoThe Niagara Whalers have started off the South Division Championship series with a big 7 – 0 win over the St. George Ravens in GMHL hockey action Thursday Mar. 9 in St. George giving them a 1 – 0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

No information is available on the GMHL website regarding game play.

From the Whalers Twitter feed, it was reported that the Whalers had a 1 – 0 lead at the end of the first period, the Ravens feed reporting that the goal came in the last three minutes of the period.  The Whalers then scored four unanswered goals for a 5 – 0 lead at the end of the second period. Their final goal was scored by Manny Manns in the third period.

Game two and three of the series is in Port Colborne, Friday March 10 at 7 p.m. and Sunday Mar. 12 at 7 p.m. Game four is Tuesday March 14 in St. George and game five if necessary is on Wednesday March 15 in Port Colborne.

The winners of the South Division Championship will go on to face the winners of the North Division Championship in the Russell Cup.
