Battle in Fort Erie ends in 3 – 2 win for Meteors over Panthers

There was a battle in Fort Erie Saturday Oct. 14/2017 between the Fort Erie Meteors and the visiting Pelham Panthers, but, in the end, the Meteors were victorious with a 3 – 2 win in GOJHL hockey action.

Pelham was first on the scoreboard with a goal from Tyler Kennedy at 5:39 in the first period, assists went to Matthew Reynolds and Brenden Bouvier. Mike Masotti evened the score for the Meteors at 11:04, assists went to Daniel Nardi and Andrew Somerville. The period ended in a 1 – 1 tie.

Thomas Young of Pelham put them ahead in the second period with a short-handed goal at 6:37 assisted by Matt Ruigrok and Adam Scholz. An unassisted short-handed goal by Mike Masotti at 11:54, his second of the night, evened the score for the Meteors, the period ending in a 2 – 2 tie.

Fort Erie pulled ahead in the third period with a power play goal by Andrew Somerville at 7:46 assisted by Mike Masotti and Daniel Nardi. The team held on to take the win, a last minute extra player put on the ice by Pelham by pulling the goalie failed to produce another goal which would’ve taken the game into overtime.

The Fort Erie Meteors next action is Sunday Oct. 15 in Caledonia against the Corvairs, then Thursday Oct. 19 in Thorold against the Blackhawks, Thorold then visits Fort Erie on Saturday Oct. 21 at 7:15 p.m.

The Pelham Panthers are next in action Sunday Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. on home ice against the Ancaster Avalanche.
