Blackhawks beat Panthers; tied with Welland for sixth place

The Thorold Blackhawks beat the Pelham Panthers 6-2 Friday night, bringing them to a tie for sixth place with the Welland Junior Canadians in the Golden Horseshoe Division.

Thorold’s Anton Trublin scored on the power play at 8:51 in the first period, assisted by David D’Agostino and Griffin Roubos. Rick Eberhart of the Blackhawks netted their second goal at 17:28, assisted by Brendan D’Agostino and Anton Trublin. Pelham’s Adam Petric put them on the scoreboard at 19:37, assisted by Jesse Burger and Brandon MacKinnon. The period ended with Thorold ahead 2-1.

Nick Sacco from Thorold led the second period scoring at 0:28, assisted by Anthony Merante and Perth Swick. David D’Agostino netted one more for Thorold at 10:49 on the power play, assisted by Perth Swick and Aaron Nunes. Pelham’s Jeffrey Venzon added their second goal at 19:37, assisted by Hunter Swain and Riley Hollowell. Thorold had a 4-2 lead at the end of the second.

Two unanswered goals by the Blackhawks in the third period gave them the 6-2 win. Thorold’s Jake Lloyd scored at 11:44, assisted by David D’Agostino and Perth Swick and Cal Davis netted a short handed goal at 18:56, assisted by Anton Trublin and Perth Swick.

Earlier in the week, the Pelham Panthers Lost 7-3 Tuesday against Ancaster Avalanche in a game rescheduled from early in the season.

Two of the Pelham goals were scored in the second period,  the first from Dylan Cancilla, assited by Caleb Mussat and Mitch Roussit. The second came from Jeffrey Venzon, assisted by Zachary Plumb and Bryce Hoggard.

Their third goal came in the third period from Liam Little, assisted by Brandon MacKinnon and Dylan Cancilla.

Currently, the Pelham Panthers hold the last place positon in the GOJHL Golden Horseshoe Division, Thorold and Welland tied for sixth place with 34 points each. For current statistics see the GOJHL website: http://www.gojhl.ca/view/gojhl

The Pelham Panthers are next in action Tuesday Jan. 26 on home ice at 7 p.m. against the second place St. Catharines Falcons. The Thorold Blackhawks take on the Falcons three days earlier on Saturday in Thorold.
