Blackhawks come back for win over Meteors

Up until the halfway point of the second period, it looked like it was going to be a Meteors win in GOJHL Golden Horseshoe Conference hockey action against the Thorold Blackhawks Saturday Nov. 17/2018 in Fort Erie.

Noah Desmarais gave Fort Erie a 1 – 0 lead for the first period with his goal at 5:56, assists went to Marco Lariccia and Cail Cirillo.

Marco Lariccia put the Meteors ahead 2 – 0 with his goal at 4:35 in the second. Assists went to Luca Mazzo and Trey Moreau.

A couple of quick power play goals at about the halfway mark in the second period brought the game to a tie.

Thorold’s first goal came from Jonathan Balah assisted by Jonah Devereuz and Michael Craig at 9:57. Their second came from Nicholas Rubino at 11:43 assisted by Trevor Neumann and Michael Craig.

The game remained tied until just past the halfway point of the third period.

Owen Allan connected at 11:58 to put Thorold ahead. Assists went to Darcy Redwood and Blair Jenkins.

With the game still close, Fort Erie pulled the goalie to put an extra attacker on the ice, but, Thorold’s Devon Thibodeau scored on the empty net at 19:33, assisted by Daniel Rocco and Michael Craig, putting the game out of reach giving the Blackhawks a 4 – 2 win.

The Meteors are next in action Monday Nov. 19 in Hamilton against the Kilty Bs. Then the Meteors and the Blackhawks meet again Thursday Nov. 22 in Thorold.

Currently the Thorold Blackhawks are in the fifth place position in the Golden Horseshoe Conference, the Fort Erie Meteors are in seventh. For up-to-date statistics see the GOJHL website: .
