Blackhawks halt Panthers’ sweep

It was ‘do-or-die’ as the Thorold Blackhawks hit the ice Monday, March 4/2019 as they faced off against the Pelham Panthers in first round GOJHL playoff hockey action.

Going into the game, the Blackhawks were behind three games to zero.

The Blackhawks won the game 4 – 3 to keep them in the best-of-seven series.

The game started with a goal from Noah Caperchione of Pelham early in the first. Shortly after the halfway point, Daniel Rocco put Thorold on the scoreboard. Devon Thibodeau put the Blackhawks ahead with less than four minutes left in the period.

Matt Ruigrok tied the score up with a lone goal around the 15-minute mark in the second period.

Nah Caperchione put Pelham ahead early in the third period, Even Miller brought the game to a tie just past the halfway point. Miller connected again with less than five minutes left to give the Blackhawks the win in game four.

The first round action between the Blackhawks and Pelham began with Pelham winning 5 – 1 on Tuesday, Feb. 26, then they won 2 – 1 on Thursday Feb. 28, and 2 – 1 again on Sunday, March 4.

Game five of this exciting first round Golden Horseshoe Conference playoff series will take place Wednesday, Mar. 6, in Pelham at 7:30 p.m.
