Blackhawks prevail with win over Panthers

The Thorold Blackhawks skated to a 4 – 3 win over the Pelham Panthers in GOJHL hockey action Sunday Sept. 24/2017 in Pelham.

Thorold took the first period with two unanswered goals. The first was scored by Matthew Dolan, assisted by Ryan Ellis and Matthew Chard. The second came from Mason Howard with assists going to Trent Sheldon and Camilo Rodrique-Melo.

Pelham outscored Thorold in the second period scoring two goals to Thorold’s one. Mitch Britton scored Thorold’s lone goal of the period around the halfway mark assisted by James Guest and Griffen Fox. Chris Webber scored a power play for Pelham just past the halfway mark, assists went to Tyler Kennedy and London Murray. Noah Caperchione scored a short-handed goal late in the period, assisted by Dante Tesero.

With a 3 – 2 lead for Thorold going into the third period, Jake Herrberg brought the Pelham team to a tie with a power play goal about a quarter into the third period, assists went to Connor Brown and Brenden Bouvier. James Guest connected for Thorold at the halfway point to take the 4 – 3 lead which lasted through the end of the game, assists went to Daniel Rocco and Camilo Rodrique–Melo.

On Friday night, Pelham suffered a 0 – 9 loss to the Ancaster Avalanche in Ancaster.

Pelham’s next action is Tuesday Sept. 26/2017 in Buffalo against the Regals, then in St. Catharines Friday Sept. 29/2017 against the Falcons before returning home on Sunday Oct. 1 at 3 p.m. against the Niagara Falls Canucks.

The Thorold Blackhawks toppled the Niagara Falls Canucks with a 5 – 3 win Thursday Sept. 21/2017 on home ice.

Thorold’s next action is Thursday Sept. 28 in Thorold against the St. Catharines Falcons.
