Blackhawks shutout Panthers with 3 – 0 win

The Thorold Blackhawks closed down the Pelham Panthers earning a 3 – 0 win in GOJHL hockey action Sunday Jan. 27/2019 in Pelham.

Thorold took a 2 – 0 lead in the first period. Carson Eden connected at 6:40 assisted by Dylan Latty and Blair Jenkins. Nick Gidney netted the second goal on the power play at 13:22, assists went to Blair Jenkins and Dylan Latty.

There was no scoring in the second period.

With the game still in reach the Panthers had their goalie pulled when Patrick McCluskey scored on the empty net at 19:47, assisted by Jonathan Balah and Dylan Latty, giving Thorold the 3 – 0 win.

Thorold’s week included a 4 – 3 win over the Welland Junior Canadians on Sunday Jan. 20/2019 and a 5 – 4 2OT loss Thursday, Jan. 24/2019 at home against the Hamilton Kilty Bs.

The Thorold goal scorers in the Welland game were: Devon Thibodeau, Trevor Neumann, Maria Zitella and Daniel Rocco. The goal scorers in the Hamilton game were: Sam VanderZalm, Trevor Neumann, Dylan Latty and Patrick McCluskey.

The Blackhawks next action is Thursday, Jan. 31/2019, on home ice against the Fort Erie Meteors at 7 p.m.

The Panthers were coming off a hot battle losing 4 – 3 in overtime Friday, Jan. 25/2019, against the second place St. Catharines Falcons. The Panther goals were scored by: Wyatt Thole, Noah Caperchione and Thomas Young.

They are next in action in Lockport against the Regals Tuesday, Jan. 29/2019, then at home against the Falcons Sunday, Feb. 3/2019, at 2:30 p.m.
