Central Fire Hall cleaned up and ready for more

A cleaning crew led by Central Station Education Initiative vice chair Claire Masswohl cleaned up over ten years worth of dust and debris Saturday in a massive clean up effort at Welland Central Fire Station.

Central Fire Hall in Welland was a hive of activity Saturday, March 9/2019, as volunteers cleaned out the building from top to bottom.

“It’s been fabulous, we got a lot done,” said Central Station Education Initiative vice chair Claire Masswohl Saturday. “Everybody worked so hard.”

“We took care of the peeling paint and swept up the floor, we got a whole trailer full of stuff for the dump and ten years of dust is gone,” she said.

The next steps involve getting the City of Welland to extend the lease to ten years so that the organization can apply for a heritage grant.

“Then we can really get going and get things happening here,” she said.

The Central Station Education Initiative has also set up fundraising efforts through fire stations across Canada as well as through other sources. Follow them on Facebook for the latest fundraising initiatives: https://www.facebook.com/wellandcentralfirehall/ .
