Port Cares is hosting a party and asking that you dress up in costume and come and enjoy the music, a fine dinner and participate in the live and silent auction. The Port Cares Gala Masquerade Dinner and Auction takes place Friday November 13 at the Italian Cultural Centre, 223 Bell St. Port Colborne. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. , auction preview starts at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m.

“We’re expecting about 300 guests who are a cross section of our community,” Karin DiBiase, Supervisor of Fundraising and Development Port Cares said in an interview. “Everyone from our Mayor to our local MP, leaders in the business community, people from community groups and other long time supporters will be there.”

“This is our 17th year doing the event,” she said. “Last year we started with a theme for the event, last year was the ‘Roaring 20s’, this year it’s ‘Masquerade.’”

“We are encouraging our guests to dress up in costume for the event, if they are so inclined,” she said. “We will have a photo booth set up and props for those guests who want to have some pictures taken.”

“The purpose of this fundraiser is to support our Reach Out Food Centre and our Client Services program,” she said. “These programs rely on private donations to operate.”

“We hope to raise $55,000 this year after the expenses from this event this year,” she said.

“We pretty much have to raise $180,000 to $200,000 a year to support these poverty reduction services,” Christine Clark Lafleur, Executive Director Port Cares said.

“Services that are for the people who have basic needs between food, support with shelter, support with different issues that happen in their lives,” she said. “Plus the need to cover the heat and the hydro in that building (Reach Out Food Centre), it’s a centre that we need help keeping it going.”

“Our sponsors are a big part of what gets us there,” she said. “We have had phenomenal support from the business community in Port Colborne.”

PortCaresGala1“This is the apex fundraiser for us for our Outreach Centre,” she said. “After 17 years, it is a tradition that people really look forward to as well.”

Tickets are $75.00 each available through Port Cares, call 905-834-3629 ext. 245 to reserve your seat.

“We still have a few tables left,” Christine Clark Lafleur said. “Anyone who wants a seat should contact me as soon as possible because we are anticipating a sellout crowd again this year.”

“It should be a fun evening,” she said. “We have Bob Steckley from Fort Erie who is going to be our live auctioneer, Frank Krahn (pianist) who is going to do the music and the emcee is going to be Brian Salmon from 91.7 Giant FM.”
