Double wins for Falcons over Junior Canadians this weekend

The St. Catharines Falcons earned two wins this weekend in action against the Welland Junior Canadians in GOJHL hockey action.

Friday Feb. 2/2018 they won 3 – 2 in St. Catharines.

The St. Catharines goals came in the first and second period, Welland’s came in the third.

Michael Davies of St. Cathariens picked up the lone goal of the first period at 6:15 assisted by Tyler MacArthur and Liam Dunda.

Matt Busby picked up their second goal on the power play at 15:41 in the second period assisted by Andrew Somerville and Lucas Smilsky. Tristan deJong netted their third at 18:04 assisted by Zach Lawrence and Dante Felicetti.

Welland’s Matthew Giannini put Welland on the scoreboard on the power play at 12:42 in the third period assisted by Brendan Rylott and Matt Hobbs. Anthony Grigg scored Welland’s second on the power play at 13:14 assisted by Tanner McEachern and Noah Blakely.

In the 3 – 1 win Sunday Feb. 4/2018, it was a repeat for St. Catharines, scoring one goal in the first period and two in the second.

Kyle West scored the lone goal of the first period at 9:25 assisted by Lucas Smilsky and Carson Edwardson.

Lucas Smilsky scored the second goal at 5:45 in the second assisted by Michael Davies and Kyle West. Carson Edwardson netted their third at 11:01 assisted by Arber Xhekaj and Liam Dunda.

Welland’s goal came from Josh Chiarot at 17:03 in the third assisted by Anthony Grigg.

Earlier in the week, the Falcons were in Thorold Thursday Feb. 1/2018. They won 4 – 0 over the Blackhawks.

Falcons goals came from: Kyle West, Dakota Miskolczi, Liam Dunda and Jaleel Adams.

The St. Catharines Falcons are currently holding the second place position in the Golden Horseshoe division standings, the Welland Junior Canadians are in the sixth place position. For up-to-date statistics, see the GOJHL website:

The Falcons will next see action Friday Feb. 9/2018 at home against the Pelham Panthers.

The Welland Junior Canadians next action will be Saturday Feb. 10/2018 in Caledonia against the Corvairs. They then face the Niagara Falls Canucks on Sunday Feb. 11/2018 at 7 p.m. in Welland.
