Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Niagara on Monday, June 24/2019, a storm may develop in the late afternoon, early evening.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain,” the notice said. “Thunderstorms are forecast to develop late this afternoon or early this evening and then persist into late this evening or early overnight. The main threat is heavy rain with strong wind gusts a lesser threat.”
“Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors,” the notice said. “The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.”
“Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.”
