EC statement warns of snow expected for Niagara

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement stating that freezing rain and snow is expected in Niagara Wednesday, Feb. 26/2020 which will continue through Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

“Snow is expected to begin this evening and continue into Wednesday,” the statement says. “Heavier snow is expected Wednesday afternoon before changing to freezing rain or rain later in the afternoon.”

“Some areas may receive several hours of freezing rain before changing to flurries Wednesday night,” the statement says. “Total snowfall amounts of 5 to 15 cm are possible by Thursday morning in areas where the precipitation falls primarily as snow.”

The statement also says: “There is much uncertainty regarding the track of this low. Any change in the track could drastically change snowfall amounts and precipitation types. The snow and freezing rain is the result of a Texas Low that will track over Eastern Ontario Wednesday night.”

The statement warns that motorists should be prepared for poor winter driving conditions.
