Falcons prevail in battle with Meteors

It was a thrilling battle in Fort Erie Saturday night, Jan. 26/2019, as the St. Catharines Falcons and the Fort Erie Meteors battled it out in a game decided in the last 46 seconds of the game.

The first period ended in a 1 – 1 tie. The St. Catharines goal came from Carson Edwardson at 5:50 in the period, assists went to Jacob Roach and Noah Blakely. The Meteors goal came on the power play at 11:08 from Brannon Butler assisted by Marco Lariccia and Nathan Reichel.

The Falcons netted two goals in the second to Fort Erie’s one, taking a 3 – 2 lead. Mike Massoti connected on the power play at 4:22 for the Falcons, assists went to Jacob Roach and Carson Edwardson. Fort Erie’s Michael Fazio tied it up with a penalty shot goal at 7:41. Noah Blakely put the Falcons in the lead at 8:35, assists went to Jacob Kelly and Jacob Roach.

The Falcons stayed in the lead until Marco Lariccia scored for the Meteors on the power play at 15:59 assisted by Brannon Butler and Luca Mazzo. Adam Pys netted the game winner for the Falcons at 19:14 assisted by Mike Masotti, making if 4 – 3 for the Falcons.

The St. Catharines Falcons found themselves with the same score, an overtime 4 – 3 win against the Pelham Panthers Friday, Jan. 25/2019 in St. Catharines. The Falcons goals came from Xavier Drummond, Mike Masotti, Kyle West and Adam Pys.

The Meteors are on ice three times this week, Wednesday, Jan. 30/2019 in Welland against the Junior Canadians at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 31 in Thorold against the Blackhawks at 7 p.m., then at home Saturday, Feb. 2/2019, at 7:15 p.m. against the Hamilton Kilty Bs
