Fifth sortie with Panthers ends in Junior Canadians win

The Welland Junior Canadians took the win in the fifth sortie this season with rivals the Pelham Panthers Sunday Nov. 12/2017 in GOJHL hockey action Friday night. The Junior Canadians won 4 – 2.

Well past the halfway mark in the first period, Alexander Dameski gave Welland a 1 – 0 lead that carried for the rest of the period at 13:58 assisted by Noah Bollert and Alexander Gonyou.

In the second period Welland went up to a 3 – 0 lead with two goals within the first four minutes.

Jeremy Oriet scored their first goal of the period at 3:09 assisted by Daelyn Minovski and Anthony Grigg. Tanner McEachern scored their second goal of the period, Welland’s third of the game, at 3:59 assisted by Jeremy Oriet and Daelyn Minovski.

Pelham came back in the period with a two goal effort. Thomas Young put them on the scoreboard at 7:59 assisted by Kurt Villani. Noah Caperchione put them to within one goal at 19:00 assisted by Zach Thompson and Trevor Meecham.

The second period ended with Welland leading 3 – 2.

With the game still within reach towards the end of the third, the Panthers pulled their goalie to get an extra skater on the ice and try to tie it up to force the game to overtime.

However, Tanner McEachern of Welland scored on the empty net at 19:51 assisted by Brendan Rylott and Alexander Gonyou giving the Welland Junior Canadians the 4 – 2 win.

The Junior Canadians are off for almost a week, they next face the Fort Erie Meteors Saturday Nov. 18/2017 at 7:15 p.m. in Fort Erie. They then return home Sunday Nov. 19/2017 to face off against the Caledonia Corvairs at 7 p.m.

Pelham also has almost a week off, the face the Avalanche in Ancaster Saturday Nov. 18/2017, then they take on the Meteors on Sunday Nov. 19/2017 in Pelham at 2:30 p.m.
