City of Port Colborne press release – Port Colborne Fire and Emergency Services hope to make every child smile this holiday season by hosting the annual fill-the-truck toy drive in support of Port Cares.
New this year, toys will be collected in socially distanced safe ways, including a drive-through donation drop-off happening Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fire Hall. Residents are encouraged to bring new unwrapped toys for children ages 0-18 and non-perishable food items. The Fire Hall will have designated drive-through lanes and participants are asked to roll down their windows and hand over unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items to Fire Fighters who will be wearing personal protective equipment or, participants can open their vehicle trunks. At no point will participants need to leave their vehicles.
“This toy drive means so much to the community,” said Tom Cartwright, Port Colborne Fire Chief. “It’s been a challenging year for everyone as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why it’s even more important to give back to the community this year. We want to thank Port Colborne residents for their continued support during the last few years and we look forward to saying thank you in person at the drive-through toy drive.”
For those who are unable to make the drive-through toy drive event, there will be other drop-off locations throughout Port Colborne, including:
- Front entrance of the Fire Hall (3 Killaly Street W)
- Port Colborne Christmas Market on Friday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., located at Market Square
Drop-off locations will be available until Dec.15, 2020. Port Colborne Fire and Emergency Services have also offered to arrange home pick-ups of new unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items for residents who are unable to make it to a drop-off location.
