Students of Fort Erie Secondary Schools were the honoured guests at the regular meeting of Fort Erie council Monday night.

Mayor Wayne Redekop and Niagara Falls M.P.P. Wayne Gates presented these award winning students with certificates of achievement, celebrating their recent wins at Skills Competitions at the Regional, Provincial and National levels as well as a recent competition at Niagara College.

“Looking through the list of awards and performances by some of the students here tonight, it’s clear to me that we are looking at tomorrow’s community leaders,” Niagara Falls M.P.P. Wayne Gates said.

Mayor Wayne Redekop congratulated the students.

“I am thinking of the people we have in Fort Erie as Canadian Champions, it’s nice to have more,” he said.

“What’s important, you have had the support of the teachers and staff at the school who do a great job of supporting your efforts,” he said. “Fort Erie is proud of you.”

“I’d like to congratulate all of our participants this year,” Fort Erie Secondary School principal Fred Lous said. “You have made me very proud to serve as your principal and even more proud as I live in the same town as all of this home grown talent.”

The students that were presented with certificates in council were:

  • Kimberlyn Kiss: Bronze Medal at Niagara College Cook Off, Culinary – team of two;
  • Pauline Cotter: Bronze Medal at Niagara College Cook Off, Culinary – team of two; Gold Medal at DSBN Skills;
  • Katrina Waters: Gold Medal at DSBN Skills; Gold Medal at Ontario Skills, Baking;
  • Dalton Bird: Gold Medal at DSBN Skills; Gold Medal at Ontario Skills; Silver Medal at Skills Canada, Job Demonstration;
  • Caitlin Brooks: Bronze Medal at DSBN Skills, Job Interview;
  • Curtis Perlikowski-Miller: Silver Medal at DSBN Skills, Precision Machining;
  •  Swaizie Lauzon: DSBN Skills participant, Baking;
  • Jason Haywood: Gold Medal DSBN Skills; Gold Medal at Ontario Skills; Gold Medal at Skills Canada, Photography.
  • Absent from council was student Kiara Fretz: Gold Medal at DSBN Skills, Job Interview.
