Freezing rain warning issued for South Niagara

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for Tuesday, Feb. 14/2019.

“Freezing rain mixed with ice pellets starting Tuesday morning,” the warning says. “Precipitation will begin as snow overnight. Snow will change briefly to ice pellets, with 4 to 8 cm accumulation, before changing to freezing rain. Freezing rain will continue for 2 to 6 hours before changing to rain late Tuesday afternoon.”

“Additionally, strong easterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h are expected Tuesday,” the warning said.

The freezing rain is associated with a Colorado low that is to cross Southern Ontario Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur,” the warning says. “Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”
