Funding available for Culture Days activities

City of St. Cathariness press release – Culture Days is coming back to St. Catharines this fall and the City is offering support to artists and organizations that want to get involved in the local celebration of arts and culture.

Artists, businesses and organizations planning free Culture Days activities in St. Catharines can apply for grants from the City’s Culture Days Activity Program, a funding stream available through the St. Catharines Cultural Investment Program.

“A vibrant arts and culture scene is important to a livable city,” said Kathleen Powell, acting supervisor, cultural services. “The support we offer to those who are organizing Culture Days activities continues our efforts to nurture relationships within the creative sector, build civic pride and enhance quality of life in St. Catharines.”

The deadline for funding applications is Friday, March 22 at 4:30 p.m. To be eligible for funding, activities must take place in St. Catharines during Culture Days weekend; be free and open to the public; engage the public in hands-on, interactive cultural experiences; encourage continued involvement in local culture; employ and pay local artists and cultural workers; and be distinct from regular activities offered by the applicant.

For-profit businesses are eligible for funding for costs relating to artist fees only.

The St. Catharines Cultural Investment Program review committee will consider all applications and make funding recommendations to City Council through the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee. The City will join other communities across Canada in offering free activities celebrating their diverse arts and culture scenes during Culture Days weekend Sept. 27-29/2019.
