Get your Summer read on: TD Summer Reading Club launches Saturday

The Wainfleet Township Public Library will officially launch the 2018 TD Summer Reading Club on Saturday, June 16/2018 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be the first opportunity for children to register for the summer reading program, which will run from July 3 to August 16/2018 at the Wainfleet Library.

“The Summer Reading Club has become a flagship program for us,” said Wainfleet Library CEO/Chief Librarian, Lorrie Atkinson. “It’s a great way to build that love of reading that will make kids want to spent a beautiful summer afternoon under a shade tree with a good book.”

Upon registration, readers will receive their reading log books and welcome package including their contest entry form for our annual TDSRC bookmark contest as well as an invitation to our End of Summer Party on Thursday, August 16/2018.

New this year is Summer Camp @ Your Library! We will be encouraging participants to explore everything our library has to offer by discovering different areas of the library’s collection through innovative 3 half day workshops based on a weekly theme, Tuesday through Thursday. You can sign up for 1 week or all 6! Cost is $15 for the first week and $10 for each additional week. Programs will be offered for Kindergarten to Grade 3 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and Grade 4 and up from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. These programs are led by our Summer Students and will include a healthy snack.

If you are unable to attend Summer Camp @ Your Library, don’t worry… you can still participate in the TD Summer Reading Club by tracking your own reading over the summer and returning to the library on a weekly basis to report your reading to staff and receive weekly reporting draw ballots and reading milestone prizes. All participants are encouraged to reach a reading goal of 10 books at their level by the end of the summer. All participants enrolled in the summer reading club will be competing for top reader prizes.

Carrie Mayr, Wainfleet’s Library Programmer, feels the Reading Club is one of the most exciting ways for kids to maintain and develop their literacy skills over the summer.

“We want to see each child to read at least 10 books at their level, or have those books read to them,” Mayr said. “This provides a great opportunity for families and friends to read and learn together.”

In addition to these great programming opportunities for school aged children, our free “Time for Tots and Craft” for children 1-4 and their caregivers will take place Mondays at 10:00 a.m. This program is led by our Library Programmer.

Registration will open for both Summer Camp @ Your Library and TD Summer Reading Club at our Get Your Summer Read On Day, Saturday, June 16 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Participation in the TD Summer Reading Club is free. Payment for Summer Camp @ Your Library must be received at registration and multiple week discount only applies upon initial registration. Any registrations received after June 29 will be charged $15/week. Registrations are on a first come, first served basis, no phone registrations will be accepted.

Registration forms for all programs will be available at Saturday’s launch, or can be found online at www.wainfleetlibrary.ca or at https://www.facebook.com/WainfleetTownshipPublicLibrary/ thereafter.

Completed registration forms must be returned in person to the Wainfleet Library to reserve a spot. No phone registrations are accepted. Sessions fill on a first come, first served basis.
