John Waters Claims RUSH Late Model Touring Series Stop at Humberstone

IMG_7406John Waters from Whitesville, NY was victorious in the main event for The Sweeney Chevrolet, Buick GMC RUSH Late Model Touring Series at the Humberstone Speedway on John Puhl Memorial Night. Cody McPherson from St. Catharines, Ontario won his second feature of the season for the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman. Rob Murray from St. Catharines, Ontario claimed the feature event for the JC Auto Street Stocks. Frank Perry from Burlington, Ontario picked up the win in the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks. Evan Curtis from Port Colborne, Ontario picked up the win in the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks.

Mike Pegher Jr and Bryce Davis led the stout field of RUSH Late Models to the green flag for their Canadian Late Model Championships and it was the former series titlist Pegher leading the field early on as Davis, Jason Knowles, Dennis Lunger Jr and John Waters running in the top five. The races first caution would come out on lap one as Colton Ledingham, John McIntire and Will Thomas III came together. The caution would immediately come back out as Bruce Hordusky Jr and Eric Wilson spun in turn one. A multicar pileup in turn one would slow the field down for a third time, setting up a single file restart. The restart would see Pegher and Davis continue to set the pace as “The Jet” Jason Knowles was running in third. Davis would take over the lead on lap 7 and Pegher would regain the lead just one lap later. The caution would come out on lap 13 as Hordusky spun in turn four.

The mid-race restart would see Pegher take off. Phil Potts suffered a flat tire and caused the inside lane to bog down, causing the caution and the great benefactor was Brian Knowles who started 20th on the grid and worked his way into the top ten. Pegher would take off into the lead as John Waters would battle Bryce Davis for second and would complete the pass on lap 16. Waters would catch Pegher and would take over the lead on lap 18, just after Brian Swank spun in turn four. Waters would open up the lead as Davis would catch Pegher for second with Jason Knowles right behind them in fourth. Mike Greene spun in turn one to bring out the caution with five laps remaining. Pegher would catch race leader John Waters off the restart. The caution would come back out for a la 26 caution for Paul Grigsby as he spun in turn two.

Pegher would close the gap on Waters but Waters would pull away and would be able to pick up the win, his third consecutive RUSH Late Model Touring Series event at Humberstone. Mike Pegher would finish in second and was followed by Bryce Davis, Jason Knowles and Brian Knowles. “Man I love this place” said Waters in victory lane. “It fits my driving style so well and I just love running here” Waters added.

IMG_7396Jeff Armstrong and Jordan Cosco set the pace for the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman feature event with Armstrong showing the way. Austin Susice spun in turn four to bring out the caution on lap two. Armstrong would take off out front after the restart with Jordan Cosco, Joey Mastrioanni, Chad Chevalier and Justin Sharp running in the top five. Chevalier would get around Cosco to take over second on lap eight. Armstrong would lead Chevalier off the restart as Cody McPherson and Brad Rouse worked their way into the top five. McPherson would battle Justin Sharp for third and would complete the pass on lap 15. McPherson would continue to move up through the field as he would battle Chevalier for second and would pass Chevalier to take second on lap 19. The yellow lights would come out with three laps remaining as John Babion slowed on the speedway. The late race restart would see Armstrong and McPherson battle for the lead with McPherson taking over the lead from Armstrong off of turn four. After a late race caution for Paul Williamson and Brian Page spinning in turn two, McPherson would pull away to pick up the win.

IMG_7376Marcel Michauld and Brad Sheehan brought the JC Auto Street Stocks to the green flag and it was Justin Ramsay moving into the lead early on. Steve Shaw Jr spun in turn four to bring out the caution on lap two. Off the restart, Ramsay would take off with Bill Bleich Jr moving into second place. Ramsay would pull away as Rob Murray moved into second. The leaders would hit lap traffic as Murray would take over the lead on lap 14. Ramsay would regain the lead as the lead duo would make contact on the back stretch. Dave Stolzenberg spun on the front stretch to bring out the caution with just two laps to go. Ramsay and Murray would battle and Murray would out-race Ramsay to pick up the win. Jason Fontaine, Dave Bailey and Bill Bleich Jr would complete the top five.

IMG_7342Doug Banner and Danny Wurster led the field of Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks to the green flag for their 15 lap feature event and Dylan Llord went four wide to take over the lead at the end of lap number one. Llord would streak away up front as Frank Perry would pass Wurster to move into second early on. Perry would catch Llord and would pass Llord for the lead on lap 11. Llord would regain the lead as the white flag flew but Perry would outrace Llord coming off of turn four to pick up the win, his first win since Opening Night 2015.

IMG_7352Olivier Larocque and Kyle Miller set the front row for the feature event for the Cosco Haulage Mini Stocks and it was fourth place starter Evan Curtis showing the way. Larocque was holding off Garnet Wilson and Brandon Iudiciani throughout the midway stages of the event. Garnet Wilson would pass Larocque to move into second on lap nine. Evan Curtis would streak away to pick up the win.
