Join the Welland Horticultural Society in celebrating its 100th year

The Welland Horticultural Society has reached a big milestone, 100 years of like-minded gardeners getting together.

“For the last 100 years, the Welland Horticultural Society, a group of like-minded gardeners have been getting together,” said president Lisa DeYoung. “We hold monthly meetings where we educate and learn from each other, interesting speakers and hands on demonstrations.”

“The plant sale, which was our major fundraiser, is held every year, on the Saturday of the long weekend in May,” she said. “The rose and flower show over the years has changed format. We have expanded it to include more that just roses.”

“The Rose & Flower show is held in conjunction with the Welland Rose Festival,” she said. “Each year our membership is growing stronger.”

In celebration they are holding a special event.

“Since we made it to our 100th year, we wanted to do something special. We have a wonderful afternoon planned with Carson Arthur,” DeYoung said. “He is an international landscape designer. His topic is ‘Adding value to your home’.”

Carson is on the City line team, HGTV’s Green Force & Critical Listing.

The event takes place Saturday Oct. 20/2018 at 1 p.m. and is located at Wesley United Church, 244 First Ave. Welland. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased online at wellandhort.ca or call 905-892-8586. All are welcome.
