Junior Canadians pick up OT win over Meteors

Welland Junior Canadians logoThe Welland Junior Canadians edged by the Fort Erie Meteors for a 5 – 4 overtime win in GOJHL hockey action Saturday, Nov. 9/2019, in Fort Erie.

The Junior Canadians led off the scoring late in the first period, Joshua McVeigh netted their first goal on the power play at 15:04, the assist went to Brenden Morin. Their second goal came on the power play at 16:03 from Thomas Gualtieri, assists went to Jarome Myers and Philippe Angervil.

Fort Erie got on the scoreboard less than a minute later with a goal from Anthony Gigliotti, assisted by Paul Cartone and Adam Morgan.

The period ended with the Junior Canadians leading 2 – 1.

Both teams netted two each in the second, Welland leading 4 – 3 at the end of the period.

Adam Morgan of Fort Erie connected on the power play at 1:24, assists went to Paul Cartone and Anthony Gigliotti. Veaceslav Pinin put Fort Erie ahead at 2:16, the assist went to Philip DeCresce.

Philippe Angervil of Welland brought it to a tie at 12:35, assists went to Dario Tesoro and Jarome Myers. Angervil connected again to put Welland ahead at 18:44, the assists went to Jarome Myers and Jason Horvat.

Trailing 4 – 3 as the third period started, Fort Erie’s Veaceslav Pinin connected at 2:53, assisted by Nathan Reichel and Drew Passero.

The game would remain tied through till the end of regulation play forcing the game into overtime where Welland’s Philippe Angervil connected for his third goal of the night at 2:52, the assist went to Dario Tesoro

Welland is next on the ice tonight against the St. Catharines Falcons in Welland at 7 p.m.

The Fort Erie Meteors are next in action Monday, Nov. 11/2019, in Hamilton against the Kilty Bs.
