Junior Canadians prevail over Meteors 

Welland Junior Canadians logoThe Welland Junior Canadians added a 5 – 2 win over the visiting Fort Erie Meteors in GOJHL hockey action Sunday, Nov.4/2018.

The first period was a battle ending with Welland in the lead 3 – 0, the goals came in the second half of the period.

Matt Baumann netted Welland’s first goal at 13:31 with assists going to Aaron Chiarot and Hendrik Robel. Jason Horvat scored their second at 16:44, assists went to Jarrett Olbruck and Chase Johnson. Jarrett Olbruck netted the third at 18:32 with assists from Martin Nowysz and Hendrik Robel.

Fort Erie got on the scoreboard in the second period with Evan Miller’s power play goal just 20 seconds into the period, assists went to Marco Lariccia and Drew Passero. Matt Bausmann netted Welland’s fourth goal at 6:05 assisted by Michael Arch and Mario Zitella.

Each team added one more goal in the third period. Drew Passero connected on the power play for Fort Erie at 5:03, assists went to Evan Miller and Logan Warner. Welland’s Jacob Thomason netted their fifth at 14:44 assisted by Aaron Chiarot and Kellan Rosenbaum.

The games three stars were:

Saturday night in Fort Erie, the Meteors beat the Niagara Falls Canucks 5 – 4 in overtime. Meteor goals came from Brady Lee, Alex McAteer, Logan Warner, Luca Mazzo and Evan Miller.

The Meteors will be on home ice again Saturday Nov. 10/2018 at 7:15 p.m. against the St. Catharines Falcons.

The Welland Junior Canadians week has them in Hamilton against the Kllty Bs on Monday Nov. 5, in Thorold against the Blackhawks on Thursday Nov. 8, then back home against Niagara Falls Sunday Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
