Junior Canadians take Meteors with 7 – 3 win

The Welland Junior Canadians earned a 7 – 3 victory against the Fort Erie Meteors in Sunday night GOJHL hockey action in Welland.

Micaheil Tlbury led off Welland’s scoring at 2:41 in the first period, assisted by Matt Hobbs and Nathan Ellis. Dravin Maye scored next for Wellanad at 9:56, assists to Michael Tilbury and Nathan Ellis. Fort Erie got on the scoreboard with a goal from Bryan Zurowski at 15:50, assisted by Garrett Jennings and Daylon Groulx. Thomas McLatchie gave Welland a 3 – 1 lead at 19:26, unassisted.

Ryan Miotto led off Welland’s second period attack on the power play at 0:41, assists went to Steven Farano and Nathan Ellis. Matt Martin scored at 3:40, assisted by Steven Farano and Ryan Miotto. Nathan Ellis brought the score to 6 – 1 for Welland on the power play at 13:22, assisted by Ryan Miotto and Steven Farano.

Noah Bollert scored the last of the Junior Canadian goals at 1:53 in the third period. Fort Erie’s Alexander Walters scored their second goal on the power play at 11:26, assisted by Daylon Groulx. Danny Katic scored their third goal on a power play at 16:21, assisted by Bryan Zurowskie and Andrew Somerville.

The three stars of the game are:

  • Star #2: Nathan Ellis, Welland Junior Canadians;
  • Star #3: Blair Coffin, Welland Junior Canadians.

Welland is now off for Christmas break, they return to the ice Saturday Jan. 7 in Ancaster against the Avalanche, then they take on Ancaster at home Sunday Jan. 8.

Fort Erie’s next action is Tuesday Dec. 20 in Buffalo, then they take a break, returning to the ice Wednesday Jan. 4 at home against Ancaster.
