City of St. Catharines press release – The Lakeside Park Carousel is set to resume operations.

After a two-day closure due to flooding at Lakeside Park in Port Dalhousie, the carousel will reopen on Friday, Aug. 9/2019. City crews have spent the last two days pumping water out of the area, and cleaning up any mud and debris following the intense rain on Tuesday night. An assessment of the carousel shows there was no damage sustained due to the active weather.

The Lakeside Park Carousel will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Monday, Sept. 2. The carousel will be open on weekends and holidays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Sept. 7 and Oct. 14. Rides are still only five cents. Visit www.stcatharines.ca/Carousel for more information and any updates.

Darrell Smith, director of Municipal Works, says the cleanup of Lakeside Park after Tuesday’s storm and the record high Lake Ontario water levels, continues. High water levels continue to still impact other parts of Lakeside Park. The east Port Dalhousie pier and the Lakeside Park Beach remain temporarily closed to the public until further notice for safety reasons.

“Our City crews have been working hard to ensure things are safe and the carousel is protected, but cleanup in the park continues,” said Smith. “We would like to get the park up to normal operation as soon as possible, but we ask residents’ patience as we conduct our cleanup.”

Lake Ontario reached record levels this summer, resulting in flooding throughout the park. Lake levels continue to recede, but remain above average, and the City continues to focus its efforts on restoring the park.
