Large watermain break in Port Colborne

City of Port Colborne press release – City Public Works Staff are attending to an emergency watermain break at the intersection of Sugarloaf Street and Catharine Street.

Adelaide Street to Sugarloaf Street and King Street to Catherine Street is currently closed as the break has undermined the intersection.

This closure is in effect until further notice. Drivers are being asked to avoid this intersection, as crews will be operating heavy equipment.

Residents in the area of Adelaide Street and Catherine Street to Sugarloaf Street and Sugarloaf Street to King Street are experiencing a disruption in water service.

City staff will be notifying impacted homeowners experiencing a disruption in water service and apologize for the inconvenience. Crews are currently on-site and the emergency repair is required to improve and maintain safe and reliable drinking water to your home.

As of 8:19 a.m. crews have started remediation along the road and repairs to the water main. The City will advise when water services have been restored. When speaking with the crew on site, they are aiming at having water restored by 10:30 am to all residents.

Once water has been restored impacted residents will have to flush their lines for 15-20 minutes to clear discolouration, however, due to the magnitude of this event residents may have to flush for up to 30 minutes.
