Last game ends with Junior Canadians win over Meteors

The Welland Junior Canadians and the Fort Erie Meteors hashed it out right to the end in the last game of the regular season for both teams Sunday Feb. 25/2018 in GOJHL hockey action in Welland.

In the end, the Junior Canadians earned the win, 2 – 1 after three periods of good hockey.

The Junior Canadians took an early lead, finishing the first period leading 2 – 0.

The two goals came from Noah Blakely on the power play at 5:16, assisted by Noah Bollert and Maliek Powell, and Roberto Moretto on the power play at 10:42, assisted by Maliek Powell and Noah Blakely.

There was no scoring in the second period.

Fort Erie’s Alex McAteer scored Fort Erie’s goal at 4:40 in the third assisted by Brady Lee.

In earlier action this weekend, the Welland Junior Canadians faced the Niagara Falls Canucks Friday Feb. 23/2018. The Canucks took the game 6 – 5.

Welland’s goals came from Matthew Giannini for two, Daelyn Minovski, Michael Dischiavi and Tanner McEachern.

Sunday’s win slides the Welland Junior Canadians into sixth place in the Golden Horseshoe division one point over the seventh place Pelham Panthers. The Fort Erie Meteors hold the eighth place spot in the league. For overall statistics, see the GOJHL website: .
