Local libraries invites public to Read for 15 Challenge

Libraries in Niagara Cooperative press release – The Libraries in Niagara Cooperative is reaching out to encourage our communities to read for 15 minutes on Friday, Jan. 25/2019 to help celebrate Family Literacy Day.

LiNC libraries would like to join the Read for 15 challenge with the goal of promoting the importance of literacy in our communities. And, we hope to become one of the most ‘readerly’ libraries in the province.

This is the first year LiNC libraries are banding together to celebrate and promote Family Literacy Day.

“Literacy is the most important basic skill for learning in every field,” said Pelham Public Library Deputy CEO Amy Guilmette. “And we would like to encourage every resident in our LiNC communities to take part on January 25th to increase awareness of this worthwhile event.”

Participation in the Read for 15 Challenge is easy. After you finish your 15 minutes of reading your chosen material, let your library know by either:

  • Tweeting with the hashtag #Readfor15LiNC and your local library hashtag.
  • Posting a picture using the hashtag #Readfor15LiNC on Facebook or Instagram and your local library hashtag

Family Literacy Day® is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family and the Read for 15 Challenge was started by the NWT Literacy Council.
